Our Curriculum at Morgan’s Playhouse
Our curriculum is based on the latest early childhood education standards, promoting learning through play, exploration, and creativity. From language and literacy to STEM and social skills, we provide a balanced program that prepares children for lifelong learning.
Our Philosophy
Our Curriculum Intent
Our curriculum aims to:
-
Support children’s emotional wellbeing and resilience
-
Build secure relationships through a strong key person approach
-
Encourage children to be curious, confident and independent learners
-
Deliver the EYFS 7 areas of learning through meaningful play and exploration
-
Celebrate every child as a unique individual
We are inspired by the Curiosity Approach, Reggio Emilia philosophy and Forest School principles, creating calm, inviting environments where children feel valued and motivated to learn.
The EYFS 7 Areas of Learning
Personal, Social and Emotional Developmen
We support children to feel confident, emotionally secure and able to build positive relationships. Children learn to understand their feelings, develop independence and form friendships in a safe, nurturing environment.
Literacy
We foster a love of books, stories and mark-making in a relaxed and enjoyable way. Children explore sounds, rhymes and early writing through play — without pressure.

Expressive Arts and Design
Children express themselves through art, music, movement and imaginative play. Creativity is child-led, open-ended and valued.
Communication and Language
Children are encouraged to communicate confidently through stories, songs, meaningful conversations, and attentive listening. We support children to express their thoughts, needs, and ideas.
Mathematics
Maths is woven into everyday play and routines. Children explore numbers, shapes, patterns and problem-solving through real-life experiences.
Physical Development
Through daily outdoor play and physical activities, children develop strength, coordination and confidence. We promote healthy lifestyles, self-care skills and safe risk-taking.

Understanding the World
Children explore nature, their community and the wider world. We celebrate diversity, encourage curiosity and help children make sense of their environment.

Art
Allowing children to express themselves through art lessons helps them explore solely for the purpose of creating and using their imagination, thoughts, and ideas.
Language
Did you know that by the age of 1, children recognize about 50 words and by the age of 5 they recognize about 10,000 words? This is nurtured through story time, song time, and general interactions.

Music
Music sessions are very important in the Early Years Foundation Stage as they help children's development in several areas.

Mathematics
Developing a strong grounding in numbers is essential so that all children develop the necessary building blocks to excel mathematically. This can be done through our cooking sessions.
Movement
Being physical helps to develop children's many life skills such as fine motor and gross motor development.

Outside Play
It is essential to incorporate outdoor play within the setting as this encourages a healthy and active lifestyle, respect for nature, and problem-solving.

Inclusion and Individual Needs
Morgan’s Playhouse is an inclusive setting where every child belongs. We work closely with families and professionals to ensure all children are supported and able to thrive.
Assessment and Progress
Children’s learning is supported through:
-
Ongoing observations
-
Individual next steps
-
Child voice and interests
-
Strong partnerships with parents
Assessment and Progress
We believe parents are children’s first educators. We work closely with families to share learning, celebrate achievements and support children both at nursery and at home.
This ensures children make progress at their own pace while feeling confident and secure.
At Morgan’s Playhouse, we nurture happy, confident children who feel safe to explore, learn and grow.
